Raika the wolf was born anew this morning, as every morning. She woke with the sun as soon as it rose over the horizon. Her eyes blinked open, easily adjusting to the still-weak morning light, and with a smile the black wolf rose from her nest, stretched, and stepped out onto her balcony. Really it was just a very wide branch that grew on the tree from which she had made her home some weeks ago, but it served its purpose. From her perch Raika could see beyond the short cliff into the small grassy meadow where deer sometimes grazed. They were not there now, which disappointed the wolf. Unlike her friends and neighbors the trees she could not survive solely on water and sunlight: she needed to meat every day, and the kill she had been eating on recently had by now spoiled from the heat of the past few days. She needed to hunt this morning and the herd's absence from her meadow meant that she would need to go look for them or something else to eat.
Her spirits not dampened, the black wolf leaped from the balcony-branch onto another, slightly lower branch next to it, and from there to another one. This stair case led about thirty feet down before the branches stopped growing, where a hole yawned in the trunk, allowing entrance into the tree itself. Raika entered and made her way down a spiral ramp until she reached the ground, where a small opening allowed her to squeeze into the world.
The black wolf trotted toward the meadow, reaching a steep natural ramp out of which grew the cliff. A small waterfall tumbled over this and the stream pooled before traveling on around the edge of the meadow. At the pool Raika stopped for a drink, savoring the particularly fresh and cool taste of the water. She was so lucky to have found such a wonderful place to make her home. Literally make. With her magic she had formed her tree house from a little sapling; in reality that tree was only a year or two old, but Raika had caused it to grow so that she could mold it to her needs without killing it. Fortunately everything had gone right.
Now Raika headed out into the forest, following a game trail she knew well. Ferns brushed her side as she walked, greeting her, and she couldn't help but smile. The plants here had a luck that that they bestowed upon her. It took mere minutes to come across some deer; there were only four: two does, a fawn and a buck. Raika crouched amongst the ferns to avoid detection as she planned a strategy to make a kill. All of the deer looked healthy, but the choice was clear to Raika. It would be impossible to take down a buck, and it would be immoral to kill either the fawn or its mother. Raika then had to go after the other doe. The black wolf prepared to spring out at the deer to cause a panic.

Briares sat up. "Ugh...morning." The wolf yawned and looked at the entrance of the cave as the sun shined brightly. It annoyed him. Can't a wolf get some sleep? He slowly stood up, stretched, and walked outside, tails swishing. He turned around to look at the cave a final time. Briares had to keep moving, the cave could not be his home anymore. But did he really have to start now? He was hungry. "Hm...a little food couldn't hurt..." He muttered, looking around for any animals that could possibly be a meal. Briares settled for a rabbit, as he had eaten a little yesterday and wasn't really starving. The rabbit was easy to catch; Briares easily caught up with it and brought it down. He walked into the forest with the rabbit in his jaws, looking for another quiet place to eat. He settled down in a shady little spot, unaware of Raika and the deer who were so close... [OOC: Sorry it was a bit short, I'm not a literate roleplayer yet. I hope it was okay...]]

With a final deep breath, Raika exploded from her hiding place in the ferns. The predictable deer panicked and scattered into the forest along various winding trails; the crackling brush was deafening after the intent silence of Raika's stalking. The wolf took off after the doe she had selected, leaping over rotting logs and ducking through underbrush, panting, her green eyes never straying from the hindquarters of her prey. But after a few moments she realized that the deer was further away than it had been at the start of the hunt, and was steadily increasing the distance between herself and the wolf. Disappointed, Raika slowed and stopped, listening to the sound of breaking branches fade away. "Damn," the black wolf muttered, but her mood was still not darkened. Oh well," she thought. There would always be another chance.

Briares heard deer hooves. "Hm..." Since Briares had unintentionally been so close, he heard the whole hunt. The she-wolf had lost her meal. Since he was in a good mood, Briares trudged off to find another rabbit, so the other wolf could still eat something. Unfortunately, the rabbits were hard to find. 'There's usually so many,' He thought. 'Where did they all dissapear to?' Briares stalked around the area, looking for rabbits. He saw something fly over him- an owl- and ran after it. As the owl landed on a tree, he looked up at it. "Hey, you!" He called to the owl. The owl looked down. "Yes?" "You seen any rabbits around here, Mr.Owl?" The owl looked angry. "I'm a girl, mind you!" "Oh, sorry." The little owl thought for a moment. "I'm in a good mood, so I'll help you find a rabbit..." She flew just below the treetops. Briares had a bit trouble keeping up, as he would lose her once in a while, but the owl eventually found him a rabbit. She pointed to it with a talon and flew off. Briares didn't even bother stalking. He just ran after the rabbit. Of course, it ran, but this time Briares had no trouble keeping up. He quickly caught the rabbit and ran back to where he was previously laying, looking for the she-wolf. [OOC: Hm, looks like I'm getting better at this. You're very talented, forte. Your writing flows, it's not boring, I can really see myself as the wolf. I just love it.]]

((Thank you )) Raika set out again along the game trail, hoping to find something else to hunt. In truth the black wolf was not a very good hunter; she was young and hadn't had much instruction or experience. Really, it was a wonder she was able to keep herself alive, but she didn't know that she did indeed get some of the nutrients she needed from sunlight, like trees, and that she needed to eat far less than other wolves did. In fact, even now as the sun rose higher and its light began to seep through the canopy and find her fur, Raika's hunger was fading. But now she was intent on finding some prey, and anyway, it wasn't like she had anything better to do.
Suddenly a squirrel began to chatter from a smaller tree next to her, warning her to keep away. The wolf grinned. A squirrel wouldn't make much of a meal, but they sure were fun to chase. Using her magic, she bent the truck a nearby large huckleberry bush almost to the ground, jumped on, and released it, propelling her into the air toward the tree the squirrel was in. The little creature gave a cry and started to clamber further up the trunk, but Raika was fast too. She had made it to one of the lower branches of the tree, and she bent the next highest one so that she could reach it, and then the next.
Then the wolf heard something. She stopped climbing and stood stock-still, listening and watching the forest below for movement. Through the swaying branches she spotted it: a light black form moving through the underbrush. Another wolf, she saw, as it came closer. Raika was hesitant to call attention to herself for fear of the wolf being hostile, but being an optimist she decided to take the risk. She leapt from the branch she was on to the next lowest one, causing it to bounce and rustle, which would surely alert the stranger to her presence.

"Wha..." Briares heard the branch, alright. He was right under it. "Who's there?" He dropped the rabbit and his tails went flat. Briares had no idea what was going on. Don't tell anyone this, but he was scared. His ears went flat against his head as he slowly looked up. It was the she-wolf! He quickly picked up the rabbit again and laid it on the highest branch he could reach. "H-here." [[Inspiration, why can't you stay with me? TT.TT]]
