Hidden in an old cave penetrating the rocky cliff side a wolf the size of a full grown horse lives in solitude.
Kaedo had been living there for over three months now. After losing his mate and his only pup he knew he couldn't stay with his pack and he didn't know exactly what he should do. He was debating on what to do when he found the cave it was just big enough for him to stay in so he spent the night there. a night turned into a week a week turned into a month and before he knew it it had been three months.
He woke that morning and decided rather than sulking in solitude he would venture the surrounding cliffs he hadn't explored anything or even left the safety of the cave, except for food of course, since he got there. He stepped out into the dim sunlight the clouds made it look like it might rain soon. He ventured out onto the left side of the cliffs sniffing different areas and marking his territory. He was surprised that no other wolves had shown up before but as he explored he realized there wasn't even a scent of wolves around him.
Around midday his stomach began to growl. He lifted his nose to the air and caught the smell of three or so white tail deer. He followed the trail to a small clearing in the trees where two does stood. His enormous paw broke a branch as he stepped forward and spooked the deer he quickly overtook the smaller of the two and crunched its neck in one bite. He shook his head this was just enough to satisfy his hunger but he would have to hunt again at night. He laid down and began to tear meat off the deer eager to satisfy his growling stomach

The wind picked up as soon as they entered Castle Hills. Ekaptut's fur bristled with the burst of cool air. This is so much better than the desert, much more suitable for me and Haktuyo.
She looked over towards him and found him enjoying the breeze with his eyes closed and his head thrown back. "It feels nice, doesn't it?" He nodded to her. He then took off at a dead run. She sniffed the air and noticed the smell of deer that she missed before. Knowing that he couldn't take it on by himself, she raced after him to help.
They came to a stop not far from the edge of a 5 foot high cliff. Below they saw an old doe wandering around, grazing. Before they had the ability to attack, a new scent drifted by. It was a rather over powering scent that she couldn't quite place, so they stayed, laying in wait for the source to be known or desipate.

Kaedo caught wind of another canine as he ate. He looked down upon his meal then shook his head. "This can wait it has been a while since I last saw another besides my own reflection."
He bounded across the hills then stopped upon seeing the doe standing among the trees grazing. He smiled to himself forgetting why he had ran here so quickly. "Why not have a little fun with this one."
Kaedo reared back on his hind legs then slammed the ground howling at the same time. The doe froze immediately. He chuckled to himself. the area where his paws hit left small craters, he took a step forward to see if the doe would move. When it didn't he over took the little bit of ground left between them at an alarming speed. He raised his right paw and cut down the doe with one swipe.
He smiled to himself, it had been a while since he had used any of the techniques he learned during the war of his tribe but it felt good to use them again. He stood over the doe and gave thanks to wolves of paradise then tore a huge chunk out to the doe's rear leg.

She was stunned, just stunned at the size of the wolf that stole their kill. In a fit of jealousy she miss judged her actions and stepped out of cover as if she really could confront the beast of a wolf in front of her.
When she entered the small clearing near the doe, she noticed her mistake. She was completely exposed here. If the wolf had wanted to kill her as he did the doe, this was his opening. She stood there speechless at her actions praying Haktuyo would not follow her. She could see him from here, he was just as stunned and unable to move from his place it seemed. Relived that he would be safe for now, she turned towards the creature and awaited his words or blows, whichever he chose, her fate was in his paws now.

Kaedo new the canine was coming towards him he could smell it. when it did it froze. He chuckled to himself he didn't even think he probably scared the poor thing just as much as the doe. He tore another bite off and swallowed. "You can come closer young one, though i may seem viscous I am actually rather soft." he tore another chunk off making sure to leave some for the Jackal that stood aw struck at the site of him. He did not think he may very well have stole this kill from it. "If you were planning on killing this doe I am sorry sometimes I do not think before I act." Kaedo stepped away then laid down making a loud thud as he did so. "Please partake of the doe I have eaten my fill." He smiled a warm hearted smile to hopefully free this Jackal of It's fears.

She turned towards where Haktuyo was and nodded. The serval joined her at her side and they walked over to the doe. "Thank you." was all she managed to speak. They feed cautiously but fully then sat down. "Please forgive our rudeness earlier, we did not know whether you would be friend or foe. I am Ekaptut, and this is my son, Haktuyo.
She knew this may confuse him because they were two completely different animals, but she honored Haktuyo's request and his passed mother's will by doing so.

Kaedo watched the two eat then was intrigued when she said her son. He lowered his head then whispered "Valil" His eyes clouded then he looked up to the two. both now were shining in brilliant colors. Ekaptut was a glorious golden color while Haktuyo was a bright yellow.
He smiled letting the magic fade away. "You two have a strong bond, stronger than even blood. there is no need to explain your relationship for i can see how your auras intertwine and can infer from that." He looked up at the darkening sky. "It seems as if it will rain soon" he looked back at the two, "If you would like my cave is not far from here you are welcome to stay with me for the night, trust me there is plenty of room and it would be nice to have company for a change. The nights here tend to get lonely when you never see anyone besides the deer and the birds." He stood waiting for their reply.

Unable to sleep since just after their run in with Azien, she carefully considered his offer. Being in such unknown territory, it would be dangerous to remain exposed to the forest in their current state. Then the thought of staying with this wolf seemed a little more welcoming, if he wanted to hurt them, he would have done so by now. Anything else in these woods would be less threatening with him because what could possibly bring harm to him or anyone in his presence?
She looked over to Haktuyo who gave her a troubling look which turned to one of contemplation. Final it turned into a sigh, he drooped his head down gazing at her with his head still down and nodded. It seemed that he drew the same conclusion but she wished she could read his mind to understand why he still looked so troubled yet sullen.
She knew what she must do though, she turned to wolf who had yet to introduce himself, bowed as a noble Jackal would and said, "Thank you kind sir, we would much appreciate it. However, what may we call you?"
I just hope that he is as gentle as we suppose he is. Haktuyo, I really do wish you would confide in me a bit more. She turned and faced Haktuyo to check his reaction and try to reassure him as much as she could with her gaze alone as so not to be rude to the wolf in front of her.
She turned back to him and awaited his words.

Kaedo could have hit himself "I apologize it seems the solitude has made me forget my manners." He bowed deeply touching his nose to the ground then raised up to full height. "My name is Kaedo, Warrior of the Daigorl tribe, though I have not been called that in what seems like years. If you would, just call me Kaedo." He turned then looked over his shoulder. "Follow me."
He led the group back to his den. From what he could tell it used to be an old bear cave but it was fairly large, large enough that he and two others like himself could stay there and be comfortable. As they stepped in it started to rain. "It seems we beat the rain but just barely" he plopped down with a loud thud. "Make yourselves comfortable no need to be shy."

Ekaptut padded her way into the cave and lay next to Kaedo. She was close enough to feel the warmth emanating from his body but still far enough way not to impede in his space. If he were to stretch out fully, his paws would just be able to reach her. Glad to be safe from the rain in this den, she relaxed and fell asleep almost instantly.
Haktuyo on the other hand was a little more uncomfortable in this cave and seemed to want to keep an eye on things from a distance. He just really didn't trust males around his mother.
He lay just out of paws reach where he could see the two of them clearly enough to protect her if need be. Trying not to be rude to the giant of a wolf, he acted as if he slept but with both ears up and ever vigilant as his eyes closed.

Kaedo watched as Ekaptut slept. He looked over to the serval who thought he was tricking him with his "sleep". He got up and padded over to the cat, he then plopped down loudly making sure the tiny little cat bounced when he hit the floor. He laid his head down next to the cat and nudged him.
"You know your not fooling anybody." Kaedo stretched then looked back at him. "Care to tell me why you do not trust me so? I could understand at first not trusting me but you have seen my hospitality and my generosity yet still you do not trust me. I would simply like to know why has a past transgression with a wolf made you this way or is it simply my size that intimidates you?" He stood up "if you still wish to pretend you sleeping that is fine but I implore that you at least answer what few questions I have asked."

"I just don't-" He turned over to face the wolf and hushing his tone. "It's not that I don't trust you personally, I just don't trust any males around my mother." He sighed knowing that he was going to have to justify himself.
"Look, my Mother has been put through a lot because of males. She saved me so the least I can do is protect her from them. The mother who gave me my first life, she was killed by a male lion. He also killed my brother and sisters and I had to watch. If it wasn't for her disposing of the creature that caused so much death, I would not be here today. Unfortunately, when her pack found out what happened, they were not pleased with her. She was always so docile which is not their way. They are aggressive by nature, cunning and vengeful creatures. But for her to bear her teeth only to save a serval like me, a pest to them, they could not stand for it. They banished her from the pack, vowing to kill us if we ever crossed paths."
He stood up and gestured towards her flank, "Do you see that mark on her fur? The white patch? It was not there when we first meet. The alpha male of her pack did that to her as a warning. Can you imagine, her own blood betraying her in that way? After that I vowed to protect her because that attack did more than just create a great physical wound. Though she says nothing of it, the scar runs so deep it damaged her emotions. I will never allow it to happen again. Please, do not take it personally, but please try to understand."
He padded over to her and lay down between her and the wolf, seemingly protecting her. He closed his eyes feeling more secure at the fact that being close to her would allow him to better protect her.

A tear swelled up in the corner of his eyes. This poor cats tale reminded him of his own loss. He looked back at Haktuyo and smiled warmly. He felt somewhat bad about confronting him and forcing him to explain but in the end he was glad.
He noticed Ekaptut shiver slightly. "It seems they could use the warmth." he thought to himself. He padded lightly over to them and curled up around both of them cuddling them next to his fur he then whispered to the cat "A young one like your self should not have to keep such a burden. I promise I will not hurt you nor your mother." he then snuggled his nose next to the tiny little serval. As he began to dose off he remembered being like this with his son and for the first time since they had passed he slept soundly.

She awoke in the morning before the birds began to sing. It was warm where she lay, but the storm from the night before brought fog into the cave making it just a bit muggy. She stood up and made her way towards the breeze that was what she thought to be the entrance. Instead she stumbled onto something very fluffy.
She took a better look and saw that she landed on Haktuyo and Kaedo who were now much closer to her than what she remembered them being when she fell asleep. They had apparently became fast friends because they were practically huddled up with each other. I wonder what happened last night to make them so close... Haktuyo was completely unphased from Ekaptut landing on him but Kaedo seemed to be stirring.

Kaedo awoke to something falling onto him. He yawned and looked at what it was only to see Ekaptut standing there. He stretched then stood up.
"Good morning Ekaptut, did you sleep well?" He asked. He then rolled his massive shoulders to stretch them out. It was then that he noticed the fog. It was odd it had been a while since at had fogged up. He liked it but hated it at the same time. Fog to him meant two things. One good hunting, two memories of fighting in the fog and watching his brothers fall around him.
He shook his head trying to get the memories out of his head. He then looked over to Ekaptut who had not answered him yet she stared bewildered at apparently him and the serval.

"Yes, for the most part." She looked down at Haktuyo , then back up at Kaedo and tilted her head. Should I ask? "It looks like you two did as well. Did I miss something interesting?"

Kaedo looked down at the young serval. It was not his place to state what had transpired last night better for him to explain it.
"Not all that interesting but if you truly want to know you will have to ask your son." He looked out into the fog. "Hmmm... It seems to be a bit foggy though but it will make for some easy hunting." he turned towards the front of the cave then looked back over his shoulder. "I shouldn't be too long if you would like to stay and eat if not then i guess this will be good bye though i hope you at least stay for breakfast."
He then bound out the opening of the cave fog swirling around him as he ran.

She stood there with curiosity filling her face. Looking down to Haktuyo, she began to nudge him awake. The only problem was, he would not wake. She bent close to his maw and felt the chill of death surrounding him, but a faint breath escaping him now and then. He really is lucky I woke up when I did.
She touched her nose to his head just in between his eyes and took in a deep breath. She felt the chill run through her nostrals and down her throat. It continued to fill her lungs, gasping a bit her heart rate slowed and the air in her lungs warmed with the warmth of her heart and filled with the magic in her blood.
She exhaled slowly letting the warmth trickle into his fur with a golden glow. She felt the familiar weakness as she gave part of her life force to him in this manner. It had been weeks since the last time she had to do this for him. It seemed to be getting less and less frequent of an occurrence.
His eyes started to flutter as they opened, he survived yet another brush with death. Ekaptut knew this wouldn't be his last. He awoke with great vitality and surprise that she was standing over him.
She managed a smile and asked weakly, "So, what did I miss last night?"
He looked over at her, half embarrassed, half wondering if his confidence was betrayed by Kaedo. He spoke in a way that sounded almost rude in a low hushed tone. It was firm, yes somber, unintending to cause her pain, "Nothing."
But in that one word, it was like a knife to the heart. He was bound to her in this way, he had no choice to leave her unless he suffered death, she knew it. She really did love him as a son, but she knew that he had every right to hate her for what he must endure being her companion that he could not leave unless he left his life with her.
She held back her tears and began to slowly make her way out of the cave for morning air. He had run ahead to catch Kaedo to find out what he had said to her.

Kaedo ran back and forth through the fog confusing the deer that stood among the trees. he routed them making sure they stayed confined to that little bit of area there were three of them. He figured even though they would not eat a whole deer a piece it would still give him food for the coming afternoon.
When the deer finally stopped trying to run and bunched together he lunged at the first cutting its throat with his teeth then turned on a dime to cut down the next as it tried to run the third ran among the the trees but it was not fast enough as Kaedo ran up and bit down upon its back breaking its spine then he slund with such force that it snapped its neck. He looked over as he started flinging his kills on his back and noticed Haktuyo had watched him kill the deer. "Well it seems your awake. Did you sleep well young one?"

Haktuyo stalked up to Kaedo as only felines can. He narrowed his eyes and spoke with them as the words flowed through his mouth. "Not to be rude, but I need to know exactly what you told Mother."
It appeared that Kaedo was about to respond but Haktuyo interjected to make sure his point had gotten across. "Please be accurate with your words, this is vital."
He could feel the tension in every movement of his muscles and his tail twitched with anticipation of what was to come next. The fog was thick, but at this point he didn't care about that. His eyes were trained on the wolf's maw awaiting the sounds. He would continue to watch it to make sure he does not mistake what he is to hear being said.
