Ekaptut raises her nose into the sky and sniffs the dry desert air. The heat stings a little bit but she can smell her prey. Unfortunately, she can't see it though. I hate the desert, I wasn't made for this place. She continues on, the pads on her paws cracked from traveling so far through the desert with little rest. Every step is painful as the salty sand enters the wounds each time. This is the furthest she has ever traveled from the den she was raised in. No matter how bad this place may be, it had to be better than going back there. If she were to return, they would kill her.
"Is it night fall already?" She had turned to face her companion but her legs failed her and she tumbled down the hill. Darkness surrounded her for but an instant then a cool sensation running through her fur as the light returned and she came to.
"Ekaptut! Ekaptut, are you alright?" Haktuyo, her male Serval companion pounced down the hill towards her. He owed her his life, he couldn't let her down now.
She lay there for a moment taking inventory to her wounds. Nothing major, just some small cuts from the rocks. She looked at what she was laying in and found that she was in a cool stream. "I'm okay, just a little cut up. The water seems to help though, I think we will stay here for the night."
She stood up and took a drink from the stream letting the cool water sooth her throat. She shook herself letting the wet sand and blood fall away from her coat. All she needed now was a good meal and a nap.

Aizen laid there curled up underneath a bush watching the happenings down the stream. His ear twitched as he caught wind of the jackal's scent. His companion Cloe sat above him on a branch.
"She doesn't look like she is from around here does she?" the raven asked while she preened her feathers. She looked down at Aizen as he shifted around to get a better look.
He huffed a bit a flame from his nostrils. "No she doesn't, but then again were not exactly from around here are we?" he looked up over his shoulder at the peculiar little bird. He then looked back to watch the jackal more closely.
Cloe looked down then asked "Will you attack?" the raven eyed Aizen closely watching for a reaction.
Aizen sighed "I'm rather tired this evening and would rather not fight." he put his paw on the three rabbits he had caught earlier that afternoon. "however if she goes for my food" his paws ignited with white fire."I'll kill her."

Ekaptut stretched her legs out and tried to take a step forward. She stumbled a bit awkwardly before sitting down. Looks like I am going to have to try to heal myself. "Hey, Haktuyo, I think I am need to sit a while and recover, do you mind trying to find dinner?"
He perked up his ears and nodded.
"Stay close though, I can't run far to help you."
Haktuyo tilted his head in a childish way and said, "You really do worry too much, I'll be okay." He ran off and began his hunt.
She then turned her attention to casting incantations to heal herself in the stream.
*** Just his luck, Haktuyo caught the sent of rabbit as soon as he crossed the stream. He searched about and found a den just under a lavender bush. Searching it he came across a female rabbit building a nest inside. May the ancestors guide me with this kill, and accept my prayers of thanks. He pounced on it with less then pin point accuracy but managed to make the kill clean.
Now that I have one, I just need one for Mother. He left his kill in the den planning to return to it with Ekaptut to sleep. Sniffing the air he caught the scent of another rabbit almost immediately. However, being as young as he was, he didn't notice that the smell was that of a already dead rabbit. He drew nearer to the scent and stopped cold in his tracks when he heard the deep breathing of a wolf and the rustling of the raven's feathers. He had gone too far... *** Ekaptut was almost done healing when she heard Haktuyo chirping frantically. She rushed off to his rescue. When she was nearly to him she saw him... The white wolf with the red scar.

Aizen was intrigued watching the Jackal as she healed herself when the scent of a serval. the mark around his eye started to glow bright red. "Cloe where is it i can't see and i do not want to move" Aizen whispered. before Cloe could answer he heard the serval stop.
Aizen turned and burst from the cover of the bush growling and baring his teeth ready to kill whatever was closest to him. Cloe flew up in air and screeched at the animal that had intruded on her masters rest.
Aizen looked down at the cowering feline. He breathed in deeply whispering the words that hopefully would end the fight with one blow."Skryvare" he then spit a large ball of white fire at the serval however his rear leg gave out as he spit and barely missed the serval grazing its back.
Cloe watched over head ready to act on a moments notice when she noticed the Jackal sprinting towards Aizen. "AIZEN LOOK OUT!" she screeched trying to get his attention then she noticed that his leg had given out and he could not move. She flew down as fast as she could and landed on his back ready to give her life to save him if need be.

Ekaptut jumped in front of Haktuyo ready to fight if need be. "Stay back behind me, don't get any closer." She sifted her gaze to the wolf who seemed to have half fallen. "Who are you and why did you attack Haktuyo?"
Her eyes began to glow gold and she felt the spirits dancing around her forming a cross current of sorts ready to throw off the next attack if need be.

Aizen growled huffing fire through his maw. He could feel the magic leaving him he would have to resolve this quickly or risk killing himself to trying to take them out.
"The better question girl is why was your serval trying to steal from me?" the magic started to leave more quickly he could already feel the tears of blood start to swell up in the corners of his eye. soon he would be defenseless. He cursed himself for that old injury.

She looked at Haktuyo and he returned the look with one that told her that he wasn't trying to steal anything, an innocent one of his youth. "Haktuyo is still but a cub. He had no intention of theift, I assure you." She sniffed the air. "He very well may have missed the smell of death in your pray." At least he seems to be reasonable now. " Look, I don't know who you are, but I implore you, please leave him be."

Aizen was about to attack, he didn't trust the Jackal or the Feline either however at the moment he was about to strike his magic left him and the tears of blood fell from his eyes. all at once the pain hit and he couldn't breathe.
Cloe saw this and decided to act. "I'm sure my master understands but as im sure you can see" she gestured with her wing towards the tears of blood. "he can't speak at the moment so i will be speaking for him." she flew off Aizens back and landed in front of the Jackal. "Though my master isn't able to speak i assure your our thoughts are the same. and that thought is that you should keep an eye on your 'pet' if you value his life." the small little bird fluffed her feathers. "Now i would like to know your name miss".

"I am Ekaptut. And Haktuyo is not my pet. I saved his life when he was much smaller than what he is now. A lion killed his mother and litter-mates. His mother's spirit called to me and I saved him." She looked over to him affectionately. Thus far I have raised him as my own and he should be treated as such.." She stepped forward. "I mean your master no harm, please allow me to try to heal his wounds. I can see you care for him very much, and for sparing us it is the least I can do." She awaits the raven's reply eagerly.

Cloe began to say something but Aizen stood up putting his paw in front of her."I require no healing from you." the tears of blood still dripped down his fur but pain had subsided. "My name is Aizen and this is Cloe That is all the courtesy i will show you however since you are intruding on my territory."
Cloe started to interrupt Aizen but he stopped her. "I may be weakened but make no mistake if you intrude on me again" his paws suddenly ignited "I will kill you".
Cloe looked up at Aizen wishing he would calm down but knowing that it would do no good, after all this was his nature.

Surely he can't be serious, this isn't his territory, I would have smelled his marks long before if it was. She walked up to him with a little more confidence. " You are not from around here are you?" She began circling him looking him over.
"If this really was your territory, you would have marked it seeing how aggressive you are. You must be a wanderer much like myself who just arrived and happened to come across us. You don't seem to be very old but I will give you respect for your slight reason-ability. However, know this, I know you are hot tempered, but mess with my Haktuyo again and it will be you who will be on defense. I can assure you of that."
She stalked around him one last time stopping just feet in front of him. " I have been walking in this blasted desert far too long to have a hot head tell me off. I suggest you tone it down a bit or I may get slightly ticked off. Trust me, you don't want that. One thing you got to know about me, I mean what I say, and will not lie to you even if the truth may be ugly."
And my pack kicked me out for not being aggressive... Bet they would have never survived this encounter.

Aizen growled. How dare this little snot nosed brat talk to him this way. The fire around his paws grew. there were a lot of ways he could go about taking his next move. he could easily use incarnus it may make him pass out but he would burn them to a crisp. Or he could simply let it go seeing as in his eyes she was still a child. He let the fires die down.
"You must still be a pup to act so ignorant. If you think that your 'speech' intimidates me your wrong. Even in my weakened state i could tear you and your little friend to shreds in an instant, however, I tire of this petty talk, you are merely a pup and quite frankly i don't do well with younglings." the fires died down completely and Aizen turned around. he picked up his kill and flung them on his back. "Goodbye" he started to walk off then stopped "don't follow me if you do i will see it as a sign of aggression and kill you on the spot." he then began to walk up the stream he knew of a small cluster of bushes just a few hours walk from where he was at. Cloe flew overhead slowly gliding and looking back at Ekaptut and her friend. She felt bad but also would not go against her master she had after all promised his mother she would look after him.

Haktuyo, looked at her with one of those looks that said, you really shouldn't have said that.
Did you catch anything?
Haktuyo looked sheepishly down. Yeah, just one. I found some place to sleep too."
She looked down shamed of her show of her youth. Keep it, I am not hungry.
The walked off in silence to the rabbit den. Ekaptut fell asleep almost imeadietly after entering.
Haktuyo decided he couldn't eat either so he took the corpse to the place they left Aizen. Surely if he were to smell it he would come back for it. It might help him calm down a bit seeing as there is no telling if we run into him again. It is a small world after all.

Aizen watched as the serval laid the rabbit down where they had last met. Cloe chirped lightly watching the serval, she then looked at him and shook her head. "You know you really should get that temper under control, she meant no harm even you could see that."
Aizen sighed. "Yes i was a little rash but still my anger was not misguided. a pup like her should not speak to her elders that way." he looked up at the moon.
Cloe shook her feather feeling the chill of the breeze coming down the stream. "I agree but you didn't need to be so rude." she flew up and landed on his back. "It doesn't look like either of them ate."
"Yes i noticed that as well unfortunately we have already eaten our kill" Aizen took in a huge breath through his nostrils and picked up the scent of several rabbits just over the hill. "Cloe, watch them for me ill be right back."
"Aizen where are you going?" he didn't answer he took off over the hill. it wasn't until dawn before he returned but he had what looked like a bundle of rabbits in his mouth. he walked up to Cloe and dropped three adult rabbits and one baby.
"I don't like apologizing but i think in this case since it is a female i should apologize." Aizen looked over at Cloe who was beaming at him. "Don't give me that look."
Aizen and Cloe quietly crept up to the den laying two of the adult rabbits down outside. "This is as good an apology as any." He turned and started walking down stream ready to leave this sand filled wasteland.

I wake up to burning heat of the dry dessert, my mouth feeling dry. I get up, smelling the air for any sign of prey, or wolves I could ask for directions out of this horrid place. I change the currents of the air, making it go in all different directions. I smell wolves, and start towards the smell. Thinks, What if it's a pack? As I get closer I realize there is not that many, and also catches a whiff of rabbit.
I chase after the desert hare, the wind busting me further. It dives into it's hole. I start digging immediately, growling as I do so. My extra claw helps as I dig deeper and deeper into the ground. I finally see the brown pelt of a dessert hare. I sprint towards it, biting down hard on it's neck, hearing a snap. I let go and ate quickly, then started on the trail again.
I finally saw the silhouette of wolves I stopped and took a deep breath and started slowly approaching them.

Ekaptut stepped out of the rabbit den stretching from the night's rest. It is already almost high sun and she smells the dead rabbits immediately. She tilts her head looking at the corpses just outside the entrance. How did these get here? She smells the scent of Aizen in the fur. But why would he give these to us? He may be a hot head but I am sure he wouldn't be dishonorable. She took one of the rabbits into the den for Haktuyo and began munching on hers outside. The wind strangely shifted around her but she felt no spirits at work this time.
It was then that she clearly saw a wolf standing in front of her. It was too small to be Aizen. "If you are a friend, welcome and approach. If you mean harm, be warned and leave now."
She quickly awoke Haktuyo and returned outside awaiting the reply of the stranger.

I finally reach them, "Do you know the way out of this place?" I ask. I relize that the air was still blowing towards them, I change the currents so the wind is blowing away from us. "My name is Current, by the way." I look around my surroundings, sand, sand, sand, and more sand. Is there anyway to tell what direction your going? I think. I had been traviling for days, and my paws were dry and cracked, my mouth dry and my tounge rough, all I wanted was to get out. I sat down and awaited a responce

Ekaptut now more at ease sat down and began to ponder on the question. She did not know what direction to point her in, but she knew how to get out. "Well, yes and no. I can not tell you exactly which way to go. However I can tell you the spirits have been taking us towards the setting sun and to the right of it. You seem parched, there is a stream near by here." She smells a whiff of hot cocoa. What an odd inviting smell...
"Where are my manners, I am Ekaptut, outcast of my pack of jackals. This is Haktuyo, my son, as he likes to call himself. He really is an energetic cub once he gets to know you." She looks over chuckling at the stiff and silent serval adolescent.
"If you would like you can join us for a while till we get out of this place. Might stand a better chance with some spirits on your side."

"Thank you" I say and lap some water, it feels good. I see the expression on he jackles face. "that odd smell....it's me" I blush (If wolves can do that...) I here the the jackle ask if I wanted to travel with them. I think for a bit. It would be nice to have some compainians, and to have spirits on my side, but a jackle and a servle? I decide to say yes. "Sure!" I say. I sniff the air. More wolves, way more than one, heading toward us "Pack." I whisper. "We should get going..." I say, trying not to alarm them. I get up and shake my fur, the lining on my ears bright blue, as they get when I'm scared/worried. I scan the horizen, I see figures in the distance, heading straight for us. I start pawing the ground, glancing from side to side. I hold back a whimper as they get coser and closer...

A little confused at first, Ekaptut smells the pack approaching. This may not be their territory, but encountering a pack is still a dangerous thing. Glad to have gained a new travel companion for protection as well as company she makes her decision quickly. "Fear not what you are about to see, this is to our favor as opposed to dismay. " Her eyes began to glow gold just as they had in protection of Haktuyo from Aizen.
"Dear spirits of the hares, though we feed upon your flesh, bear us no ill will for we give you thanks for allowing us to live on. We have one last request of you, please help us throw this pack off of our trial. "
Four semi-transparent rabbits began to manifest in front of them. Each one of them looking more alive with each passing second. These were not physical beings, just really strong energies since they died quite recently. "I ask of you, take some enjoyment in having the pack chase you without ever getting to touch you in your new lives. Borrow some of my energy in the way we had taken yours."
A fifth, and rather larger rabbit appeared before them, even more transparent than the others. Haktuyo did not seem to be able to see him, but he beckoned for them to follow him. This must be our guide out of this place.
With her eyes dimming down, she called to her fellow wanderers, "This way, our guide is here."
