It was white. There was nothing, but white. There wasn’t ground or sky. Koa was in emptiness. The bright endless color was blinding, and Koa narrowed his eyes. He looked around, lifting his head and scenting the air. His ears twitched nervously. There was no sound, not even the sound of air going in and out of his lungs. Koa blinked and started to walk, each step unsure. He moved slowly, not sure what he was walking on. The texture was unlike anything he had felt. It was smooth, when his paw touched it, but when he put weight his leg, it felt as if he were stepping on smooth river rocks.
Koa…
The white wolf turned at the mournful voice, his tail rising slightly. He flexed his muscles under his thick fur, when he saw another figure in the distance. Koa’s lips rose and he flashed his fangs, letting out a guttural growl. Something wasn’t right. The creature had the outline of a wolf. It looked like a wolf, a black wolf. The being’s silhouette started to waver, and it disappeared, leaving behind a black puddle where it had been standing. Koa stood in amazement, his ears perking forward with aggressiveness. He barked a warning when the figure reappeared, not more then 10 yards from him. “Who are you?” He snarled, feeling the hackles on his back raising; a simple form of self defense, trying to make himself seem bigger so the thing would leave him alone.
By now, Koa was definite the being was a wolf, and it put him on edge even more. He growled when the canine walked closer to him. It left a trail of black paw prints, standing out against the white. Each step looked painful, full of misery, yet at the same time, it looked dangerous. A surge of fire crackled under his skin, and he clenched his teeth in pain. Each time the wolf set down a paw, the burning sensation grew worse until he felt as if he were truly on fire. Now the wolf was right in front of him, and Koa swallowed hard when he saw the wolf had no eyes. Just empty eye sockets, with no color.
The black wolf opened its pure white mouth, revealing rows and rows of serrated black teeth, with a long thin black tongue that slipped out of its mouth. Koa barked now in fear, unable to lift his legs off the ground to run. He lowered himself quickly, tail tucked between his legs, submitting to the creature. The beast looked down, letting out a strange, horrifying snarl, and it lunged at him.
Koa jerked awake, sitting up and panting hard. He looked around through narrowed eyes, disoriented. Where was he? It wasn’t very bright out, but it was hot. He was in some kind of desert, and he was lying in the setting sun. He looked to his left, seeing nothing but rolling waves of sand and small patches of sagebrush. Koa tried to remember what he was doing, and how he got here. To the right, he saw a poor looking shrub that was hanging over, providing beckoning shade. In the shade there was a small hole, and Koa remembered. He had been walking through the desert for a few days now, looking for a suitable place to live, and to find water. He had used his element to his advantage to provide himself shade while he slept through the day.
Koa traveled in the cool night temperatures, and slept through the day. Traveling at night wasn’t the best idea, but he was content with the heat of the day soaked into his body, to travel at night. And now, it was time to leave. Standing up, Koa shook his fur, ridding himself of a layer of sand. He turned and started to trot in the direction the sun was, moving around the hot rocks instead of stepping up and over them. Everything had a red-ish orange tint from the setting sun. The white wolf looked more yellow when he walked in the sun, but the shadows made him appear almost blue. Jaws opening wide, he yawned and shook his head, getting rid of the rest of the sleep that lingered in his mind. . Suddenly the left side of his body tingled and burned, and he recognized the feeling of being watched. Koa didn’t stop and ignored the feeling, but glanced over through his squinting eyes, trying to catch sight of who was stalking him.

KODIAC It was just starting into sunset, and the white, teal marked she-wolf was out walking, she hadn’t found a place to live yet, and technically wasn’t…really looking for a home. The moon was beginning to rise and Kodiac tilted her head a little as she paused and looked around at her surroundings. Her stomach growled a little as she stood still. I need food…damn…okay I guess I search some out. Kodi thought as she scanned the desert and sage brush surrounding her. It really was pretty out here, Kodi could really get to enjoy the desert as home. Smiling she started off again. Soon, off to her right, she heard scurrying. Stopping again, Kodi searched for the creature, it wasn’t long until she saw it. A scorpion, they didn’t taste the best and they didn’t fill one up, but they were food, tilting her head again, Kodi settled her crimson gaze on it and approached it cautiously. She batted at it with her paws, dodging the hooked stinger on its tail. After aggravating it…a lot…Kodi managed to flip it over and then picking up a rock in her jaws she dropped it onto the creature and then lifted it up to get at her meager feast. She bit through the hard carapace of the scorpion, pulled the tail off and then ate the remaining bits of the creature and then got back to her paws, then she started into the desert again. Soon her hunger was pulling at her belly again. She needed a better meal than scorpions. Shaking her pelt out, Kodi picked up her pace a little and then a different movement caught her attention and Kodi skidded to a halt as she stopped to look at it. In the gleam of the silvery moonlight, she picked out the vague outline of a wolf-looking creature. Hmmm…what’s this? She wondered and crept closer to the distant figure. Soon, she was close enough that it was confirmed, the figure she’d seen from the distant rise under the sage brush. It was large, larger than her, Kodi was intrigued, another wolf, the first she had seen since she had arrived here. She stuck to the shadows and followed him as he walked. She saw as he looked toward her and her tail waved a little before she sprang out of the shadows a few feet in front of him and faced him, her tail up and waving a little and her crimson pools seemed to shift a little toward pale violet. She wasn’t ready to actually…flirt with the brute…yet, but she smiled and parted her jaws to speak, “Hey stranger, my name’s Kodiac, friends can call me Kodi. What’s your name?” She asked as she watched the white male stepping closer. She smiled and danced to the side of the path before the male and flicked her own teal-rimmed audits forward toward the male. Her tail waved a little more for a moment and then she tilted her head a little and waited for the male to speak. Words~507 Speaking Listening Thoughts

The burning sensation did not leave Koa’s face, nor did it trail anywhere else along his body. Whoever was watching him was staring intently. This did not discourage the male, as he was definitely large enough to handle his own in a fight, should one occur. Ears leaning back toward his tail, the wolf commanded a few shrubs in front of his to disperse to provide him with a walkway. Koa walked through the newly made path and was almost instantly confronted with another wolf. Hackles went up immediately in surprise and he raised his tail. The scent, now he could tell, was female, and she was definitely interesting with blue patterns. Despite his hostile behavior, the wolf in front of him wagged her tail. This stumped Koa, but he dropped his tail flat against his hind ends and watched as he eyes changed colors.
“Hey stranger, my name’s Kodiac, friends can call me Kodi. What’s your name?”
Kodiac? Alright, not the most common name but it seemed to suit her outer appearance. He watched silently with his dark brown eyes as she seemed to dance in front of him, wagging her tail in a friendly way. The last female he had met in the desert sexually harassed the poor boy and threatened to make him relive his nightmares. What would this female do to him? Tossing the thought aside for the time being, Koa cleared his throat. “My name’s Koa.” He said huskily, maneuvering around the Fae at a slow walk. If she wanted to follow to resume conversation, she was more than welcome. For now, however, Koa needed to find water and a bit to eat. “What are you doing in the desert?” He called back, shaking his head at a mosquito that strayed too close to his ear.

Kodi tilted her head as she was greeted with some surprise and maybe some slight aggression, her audits flicked forward as she heard the male speak as he walked past her, My name’s Koa. The deep lyrics were somewhat husky and Kodi narrowed her crimson pools and chuckled softly as the male, now introduced as Koa, spoke again, What are you doing in the desert? Kodi shook her skull a little as she pivoted and stepped after the male, slinking up off of his right shoulder Kodi answered him with a smile, “Nice to meet ya Koa. I was wandering through, just because.”
She laughed softly as her pools shifted a little closer to their pale violet, “I could ask you the same thing Koa.” Kodi told him her lyrics gentle as she kept pace with Koa. It was nice to have some company too after being alone as long as she had been. Kodi looked into the sky and snatched the mosquito right out of the air and downed it with a laugh as she looked over at Koa. “Know where there is any good food around here, so far I’ve managed to have only a scorpion and a mosquito, wolves can’t survive on that stuff.”
Kodi chuckled as she moved a couple steps closer to Koa and looked at him with her violet eyes. Then she smiled and kept close to Koa, if just to feel the comfort of another being after wandering the land alone for so long. Her tail waved a little and she put a bit of a sway in her steps as she tilted her skull and flicked her audits toward him as she awaited his response. Her eyes shifted to a paler shade of violet. She had company and it was a beautiful night out here.

The Fae, known as Kodiac, moved to walk beside him. She spoke and he turned to look at her with a questioning face. “Just because, eh?” He asked, giving a loud yawn when he glanced at the slowly rising moon. “I’ve never met someone who’d be willing to walk into the desert just because.” Why would anyone anyway? What was there to do here? There was sand, dead bushes, and little water. You’d have to be crazy to walk into the desert. Well, sign Koa up to be shipped to a rubber room, because there he was walking with a stranger in the desert.
Her laugh caught his attention and he met her eyes just as they started to change colors. He was about to inquire it, but she hit the ball back onto his side of the court. He snorted distastefully. “I’m passing through looking for better lands. How I ended up in the middle of the desert is beyond me.” He growled. He was not irritated at Kodiac, no, more so at himself. He lost track of time and wandered where he wasn’t meant to go, and then he got lost. However, now he was following a familiar star pattern that always leads him to the great forest sooner or later. Her second question brought a smile to his face. “I’m afraid you won’t find much here.” He laughed, casting a side glance at the white and blue Fae. “That is precisely why I’m heading to the forest.” Koa noticed Kodiac move closer to him and swing her hips more with each step. He also noted how her eyes changed from a deep crimson to a pale purple. He couldn’t help himself from asking. “What do the colors mean? With your eyes? They’re violet right now, but they were red earlier.”

Kodi’s audits twitched a little as she listened to Koa. Just because, eh? I’ve never met someone who’d be willing to walk into the desert just because. A soft chuckle caught at the back of Kodi’s throat as her audits switched and heard more of Koa’s lyrics. I’m passing through looking for better lands. How I ended up in the middle of the desert is beyond me. Kodi smiled as she looked to Koa. So it seemed they were both in a desert for no particular reason. Well, Koa was on a mission, better lands apparently, Kodi, well she guessed she could consider herself on a mission too, a mission of exploration and discovery.
His laugh at her question of food caught her attention and Kodi lifted her gaze upward as she turned to face Koa as they walked. I’m afraid you won’t find much here. That is precisely why I’m heading to the forest. So there was a forest somewhere was there? This intrigued Kodi and she smiled a little more as she looked to Koa again. Then she caught his final lyrics, What do the colors mean? With your eyes? They’re violet right now, but they were red earlier. The dredded question. Kodi’s smile faded a little, but she kept it on her lips as she spoke in answer and let it brighten a little more.
“It’s an ancient curse of my old pack…outside our lovely Valley. If a wolf is destined for something in particular, they will have a particular mark, whether it be something as prominent as the recent star on my chest or a little less prominent, such as the color of their eyes. In my case, I got the eye one. My natural eye color is deep crimson, they shift to the pale violet when, as happened just recently, the surroundings are beautiful, the night is lovely, and I’m in the company of a rather good looking male. The pale violet means I’m feeling a little flirtacious.” Kodi murmured as she picked up her pace to get past him for a moment embarrassed that her eyes had betrayed her.
Kodi didn’t like to let others know how she was feeling and her eyes always betraying her made it all the worse. She realized she was quite a few paces ahead of Koa and slowed down calling back toward him, “I’m sorry Koa. It’s kind of embarrassing.” She slowed again and turned to look back toward Koa. He was a rather handsome wolf really. He had the same snowy fur as she did, a little bit of brown scattered here and there and in the light, she thought she could see dark brown eyes. She paused then to examine him farther. Her smile returned despite the slight embarrassment and she waited for him to catch back up. She really did enjoy his company the longer she thought about it.

Koa looked at the she-wolf with interest as she began to explain about her eyes. His ears perked and a quirk formed on his mouth towards the end of her jaunt. Flirty, eh? Typically Koa wasn’t one to indulge in the delights of female affections, but she was being honest and straightforward. It drew him to her in all honesty. Kodi abruptly darted ahead, leaving Koa confused and somewhat disappointed. Somehow, Koa felt as though this always happened. Females leave him dumbfounded and alone. His sister sure did. Biting his tongue, he tucked her image gently into the deeper parts of his memory and focused on the latter. He hurried after her, his mouth fumbling with words he didn’t know how to use.
She slowed suddenly, and Koa had to skip to a stop to avoid running into her. “It shouldn’t embarrass you.” He said, kicking up his heels when he stepped on a thorn. Koa drew alongside her again, flicking her softly with his tail. Her eyes reminded her of another fae who he had met earlier that year. Jynx. He had some kind of mutual feelings with her, but after a forest fire, they had split apart. He hadn’t heard of her sense. Perhaps that’s why he felt drawn to Kodi. She shared similarities with the fiery red she-wolf he had met. “It’s fine. Really. Now I just know what you’re thinking.” He said with a chuckle. Koa tilted his head at her and nodded forward. “Would you like to come with me to the forest? If not walk with me a bit longer?”
