Grrrrrhhhhgggg. Oh shut up. The great white wolf was rather hungry, and the turf here was unfamiliar to him. He was used to miles and miles of snow, not grass and rock. True there were mice and other small creatures running around, but he would see them too late. It was starting to become irritating, and his frustration peaked when the ground seemed to start to shake. You’ve got to be— He was cut off short when he saw a herd of caribou. He perked his ears forward and sniffed the air as the herd stopped and eyed him. They were quite a ways off, but it wasn’t a distance he couldn’t run. The herd wasn’t large enough to make him believe they were part of the migration, but there was a fair amount. Oh, and this was his lucky day! Several calves were present in the herd. That sounded like a perfect meal. If he could catch it and not be trampled by its mother.
Ciel darted toward them suddenly, ears pressed to his head, tongue lolled out. The herd ran the second he moved, which was to be expected. The white wolf picked up speed, trailing behind the fleeing herd. His eyes were locked on a small runt looking calf that was slowly being left behind. This is just too perfect, he said mentally, feeling rather cocky. Heart racing, the wolf ate up the ground, getting closer and closer until—yes! The wolf tackled the calf, rolling once, twice, three times with it. Sheesh, how fast had he been running? Ah, who cared? Ciel panted heavily, looking around for intruders. The calf was squirming around with a broken leg, seeing that made Ciel feel ten times luckier. That could be him writhing in pain.
He touched his nose to the calf before biting down hard on its shoulder. He listened to it scream mentally and he shook his head, ripping skin and muscle from the creature. Humane kills were rare when it came to Ciel, but the high pitched noise was starting to irritate him. Even though a surge of protectiveness washed over him, the white wolf clamped his jaws down on the calf’s neck. In no time the calf went still, and Ciel collapsed onto his side. He panted, leaning back away from the kill. He needed to catch his breath before he ate or else he’d puke it back up.
The wolf looked around as he waited, sniffing the air for the scent of an intruder. No way was he going to let someone take his food. It had only taken a couple minutes before Ciel started to show down, occasionally looking up, wary for scavengers. Crows started to circle, and a coyote appeared in the distance. Ciel ate his fill before lying down and licking his paws. He’d stay around it and eat a little more later before letting the scavengers have at it. A sudden scent hit his muzzle. Another canine was here, besides the circling coyote. Ciel wasn’t concerned and he showed this by not getting up. However, he rolled his head back to look for whoever was approaching.

Midori trotted along, in a better mood than he had been in for months. The fresh, open air was a welcome change from the cramped, crowded series of rocks and trees he used to call home, and he was relishing every moment of it. His black fur shifted in a light puff of wind, making the rainbow swirls along his body dance. The only other colors on him were the green of his eyes and the white splotch between his shoulder blades that was the ermine, Rouge.
The wolf hummed jauntily to himself as he made his way across the tundra, not overly concerned with anything in particular. However, a sharp tug to his ears pulled him from his good mood.
"Take a look over there!" Rouge yanked his friend's head around to look at a small herd of caribou running parallel to them.
"Caribou. How nice," Midori complimented dryly, "You know, we passed a few on our way here too. You don't need to show me every time."
"Aren't you curious to see what they're running from, though?" the ermine asked. Midori turned away from the caribou and resumed his brisk walk.
"Who ever said they were running from something? Plenty of animals just like to run. It's a way to get around faster, like this!" Midori took off, throwing Rouge from his shoulders and sending the little furry beast tumbling into the earth. Ignoring his friend's cries, the wolf plunged ahead. He could stop and wait in a few minutes, but for the moment he was going to enjoy his free-
"Ooof!" in an ungainly tangle of fur and tails, Midori tripped over the partially eaten body of a young calf, spilling to the ground before another wolf. He instantly rolled over and stood, shaking himself thoroughly.
"Ah, umn... sorry about that," he said, offering an apologetic smile, "I wasn't paying attention..." he trailed off, unsure of what else to say. He hadn't particularly been looking for a fight, but, as far as past experience went, most wolves didn't particularly enjoy having their food tripped over.
"I... hope I didn't bother you too much," Midori continued, hoping to find a way to appeal to the other wolf.

It didn’t take long before Ciel settled again and started to eat more. Besides, who knew when he’d eat next? He got lucky today, catching something this big. By chance, too. All by himself. He boasted his pride mentally, wolfing down— no pun intended— a shoulder piece. He licked the blood off his muzzle and started to lick his legs and anywhere else the crimson liquid was. The scent of wolf he smelled earlier was stronger now, and Ciel looked up.
Ciel had seen the strange looking wolf far before it saw him. He tilted his head in curiosity, wondering where they were going. He almost felt compelled to ask, since his drive for curiosity was so strong. But, come on, it’s not like he could yell out to the stranger. He watched the wolf come closer. Something flew off his back, which is what Ciel paid attention to. By the time he focused back on the stranger, he was closer and closer and closer! Before Ciel had a chance to jump up out of the way, the wolf knocked into him, sending him rolling, and smacking him right on the nose. This caused him to yelp loudly and stand up, shaking his fur before lifting his tail dominantly. He bared his teeth, instantly thinking this male was here to take his food. He stepped over it and glared at the stranger. But then he spoke.
He apologized and gave an explanation on why he ran into Ciel. The wolf lifted his head and snorted in disapproval. Oh how he wished he could snap a snooty comeback. He gave an irritated eye roll before stepping forward and quickly pressing his nose against the stranger’s nose, imprinting on him instantly. It would be nice if you’d watch where you were going. Ciel sent the thought telepathically into the wolf’s mind. Ciel’s tail gave an irritated sweep across his legs, Before you ask, no I can’t speak because of this. Ciel lifted his head, pointing his nose toward the sky. He revealed a nasty looking scar that took up a large part of Ciel’s neck. The beautiful piece of work was delivered to him by his father. That bastard. Just like his mother, they gave him no consol. They nearly killed him. They brought the term ‘I hate my parents’ to a whole new level. He looked at the small white creature that had fallen off the wolf. What is that? He asked mentally, nodding his chin at the being.

I push farther into the blasting wind, the blue air currents blinding me. I was led by hearing and smell. I felt fur brush up against me, and backed up in the other direction, clearing the currents from my eyes, I bumped into another wolf behind me. I shrank down, realizing I was trapped, and Even worse! Two males! I choked down a whimper as I got a good look at the two of them, frozen in place by fear. I should have gone with Ekaptut, I thought, remembering my old travel partner. I bowed to the bigger, white male. Then lie down and rolled on my back, (the wolf sign of, I'm no threat to you.) showing my soft belly. The lining on my ears turned brighter blue than ever, and I waited to feel pain and ripping of my fur. I imagined the two males ripping and tearing at me, in this blood stained battle feild. I close my eyes and remember my days in the dessert with Ekaptut. The day I met her was the best of my life, I had left her to go to the tundra and not the forest. I had followed the spirit fox for days, until it left me at the foot of the tundra, alone in the brilliant cold. I had then made it through the winter and into the summer, and some how to these two males. I realized how good life has been up till now, full of adventure and mystery. it was all over now, I waited for the teeth.

Midori cringed as the other wolf bared his teeth, but his fear quickly turned to surprise as he felt the cool dampness of the other's nose against his own. Beneath the black of his fur, Midori's skin was a bright scarlet. He yelped, taking a quick step back.
Was that-?! Oh gods, I think that was supposed to be- his thoughts ran in a dizzying spin as he tried to understand exactly what had happened. And then the voice spoke in his head.
"Wha..?" there was a soft thump as Midori sat down. He shook his head, thinking that he was still a bit frazzled from the unexpected contact. However, the voice came again, this time followed by the other wolf lifting his head to expose a nasty scar. Midori swallowed dryly. So he wasn't loosing his mind. That was a good place to start. It wasn't as though he hadn't seen strange things, but this was all new to him.
"Oh... I'm sorry." He said lamely, "Umn... that... must've hurt?" he tried not to wince at his own words.
And this, my friend, Midori thought to himself, is why you're only friend is an ermine.
The voice in his head spoke again, this time followed by a nod towards the ruffled but otherwise unharmed Rouge.
"Umn... this is, umn..." the black wolf searched for the proper way to describe the little creature, "He's... he's my ermine."
Rouge scrambled up Midori's back and stood between his ears, offering a paw to the white wolf.
"Friend, wingman, irresistible lady's man," he purred, "I'm kind of a multi-talented little guy. Please, call me Rouge." he squinted at the other wolf, "Say, did you two just-"
Whatever he was about to say was cut short as another wolf bumbled onto the scene. She instantly rolled over ("Psssh, like you were gonna hurt 'er," Rouge whispered in Midori's ear), and seemed to be waiting for something.
"Umn... are you alright?" Midori nosed the newcomer gently. He then looked back to the white wolf, "Do you think she's okay?"

Ciel gave a shake of his head at the wolf’s comment about the scar. You can’t even begin to imagine the pain associated with this. He gave a huff and looked as the strange little creature clambered onto the male’s back and spoke. Ciel snorted in amusement, tilting his head thoughtfully. Why would an ermine and a wolf be traveling together? He licked his nose before stepping forward to touch the small creature when another wolf bumped into him.
Instinctively Ciel bared his teeth and raised his tail, jumping toward the female as she rolled over submissively. She exposed his belly and Ciel put a paw on her chest, pushing down and leaning close to her neck. He stared into her eyes for a moment before standing over her and nuzzling her nose. Stand up. He snapped mentally at her, sending his thoughts into her brain. His actions were but of simple dominance, to show her that he was going to be in charge and she was going to listen to him. But then, at the same time, a wave of protectivness crashed on him and he glared at the other male as if he did something wrong.
He snorted at the black wolf, She’s fine. She’s smart though, how fast she was willing to submit. He said voicelessly to the black wolf, moving around her and bumping the ermine’s nose with his. On that note, finally satisfied with connecting telepathically with everyone, Ciel stepped back and plopped down on his rump, eyeing the female on the ground. He sent his message to the ermine and to the black wolf, why does it surprise me to see the two of you traveling together? You are very unlikely companions, and it intrigues me. Tell me, how did you two come to meet? His natural curious behavior was showing and he let it. He wasn’t ashamed to be pushy, after all, look what he did to the female that just appeared.

Current stared at the wolf, but got up. The white wolf seemed to be angry, so she starts to back up, when she feels something on her back. On Currents back where three tiny snowflakes, slowly melting. Oh, great Current thinks to herself, snow, just what we needed. Her heat scent starts to leak out, but Current stopts it, her normal, hot cocoa scent flooding over it. She blushes and sits down, her tail wrapped around her paws. She stares at the attractive white wolf, wondering if he would be a good mate. Affraid of him turning to face her, she started to clean her creamy, fluffy fur. Current looks at the two males, mabye they didn't smell it! She thinks, releaf flooding over her. It starts to leak out again, but she lets it go for three seconds, not noticing it. Current gets up and shakes heer beautiful fur, then sits back down.
