First we need to figure out the earth magic, though. It's all well and good if the wolves figure out there's some usable material in the ground, but how are they going to get it out? I suppose we could have a wolf with metal powers who can extract metal from the rock, but I'm still open to having a wolf with earth powers. Spectrum is already really liberal about magic, and I think anyone here would be mature enough not to abuse those powers.
So, who's interested in this character?

Hmmm... I would make an earth-powered wolf, but I need to start using my current characters.
(Summer holidays in three weeks. Oh, heaven approaches, I CAN SEE THE LIGHT, IT BLINDETH ME... three weeks...)

About the weight problem:
Maybe so wolves wouldn't have that problem, we could use one of the more magical -le jazz hands- wolves to enchant certain pieces of armor, and then that armor would be lighter?
Fairies do that with fairy dust. o3o
