Kihlan shot Zephyr an irritated look. "I'll take that as a no." The white wolf started to grind his teeth together as he thought up a plan. Perhaps they could land, find some food and rest and at night he could look to the sky and try to remember which star lead him to the sea. Or he could lead her in the opposite direction just in spite. Ki lifted his head and growled. The sun wasn't anywhere close to setting, so they would end up being lazy the rest of the day. Well, Kihlan would be the lazy one. He didn't know what Zephyr would do. Ki summoned a stream of air to run through his fur to cool him off. "My mother used to ask my aunt to navigate with stars. They tell you where to go. Both of them taught me how to tell which stars lead where, but I can't remember. If only we could find someone who knew..." Ki trailed off and looked down at the canyons.
Then, without a word, Ki closed his wings, dove under Zephyr and soared down toward the top of a canyon. He was the one who got to make the decisions, right? So he was going to make one. Besides, Ki was in the mood for a good long nap. The wolf didn't speak during his decent, and soon landed next to a since pathetic looking shrub. It was hot, and the bush provided shade, so Ki crawled under it and sprawled out, stretching his legs. Still remaining silent, he pulled a wing over his face, sighed heavily, and closed his eyes. He would explain to Zephyr later what his plan was, but for now, he was tired and in a lazy mood. Why not nap?

Kihlan's tone was lost on Zephyr, who was now having doubts as to his sanity. She had never known stars to talk and she had never known anyone who had. She looked at him sideways and noticed that he looked upset. Irritated. Annoyed. Angry. One of those. She was defensive now. What had she done to get on his nerves? Nothing, that's what.
Suddenly he folded his wings and dropped out of the sky. Zephyr snorted rudely in response to his rudeness. She was headstrong and so she hesitated to follow him. Why should she? He was in a bad mood, clearly, or upset with her somehow, so why would he want her around anyway? Zephyr looked at the shrub under which her companion had disappeared and kept flying.
It was just a few minutes until she remembered that she had no idea where she was or where she was going. The sea must be somewhere in this direction. They had been traveling--Oh. Now Zephyr saw why Kihlan had been talking about navigation. He hadn't known where he was going after all. Suddenly the she-wolf felt very, very lost. She landed immediately on the bank of the same river they had been following for days. It was hot down here, but there were trees nearby, and Zephyr headed toward them to think about what she could do.

Kihlan's eat twitched. Why wasn't Zephyr here yet? He waited a few more minutes. Silence. What, was she going to try and fly on her own? She didn't know where to go, right? What makes her think she can just fly away and not expect to get lost? Suddenly irritated in his companion's choice to not join him, the white wolf scrambled to his feet to peek out from under his shady oasis. Where the hell was she? Ki let his bright blue eyes scan the nearby land. And there, sure enough, was a very confused looking Zephyr walking toward a cluster of trees. The male tilted his head and watched her for a moment. What was she doing? Cautiously, he commanded a stream of air down toward her to ruffle her feathers and get her attention. Ki had promised to get her to the sea, but he couldn't if she would doubt his every decision. So the brute flew down to her, his speckled wings rustling loudly as he touched his paws behind her.
"Zephyr--," Ki closed his mouth and looked toward the river. What choice of words should he use? "--I'm not lost. I'm just trying to find a short cut." The excuse was an attempt to save himself from looking foolish in front of her. How he hated to be made a fool of. The beating sun was harsh on his feather covered back, so he moved after the female toward the shade of the trees. Once close enough, Ki dug a little hole, spun around a few times, then squeezed himself up small to lay down. Still feeling tired and lazy he tucked his nose under his tail and covered his face with his wing again. "I'll get you there, princess. Don't worry about it. Just let me do my job." The brute grumbled, nuzzling deeper unto his furry belly. He nibbled an itch and then was still after a heavy body racking sigh.
